I grew up on this show and was thinking about it today. I think it could. A lot of people liked the family aspect of it. You get rid of the Confederate flag (I do not think any of them would be driving with it now anyway) and references to the Civil War and introduce younger characters while keeping Bo, Luke, and Daisy. Thoughts? Would it work or is the show really just a relic of the past?

I would prefer a spiritual successor rather than an outright reboot, but yes, the show could be done again.

They could do a fake version of, but could not do a true version again. The characters were the remaining vestiges of the Old South. No one is going to allow a connection to the Old South anymore. The reboot would be modern southerners and would have to have a cast with Black, Asian, Hispanic and trans actors. It would be a completely different dynamic and be nothing like the original.

There were black people on the original show. Like I stated before, I do not think the characters would be driving around today with Confederate flags. It would be interesting to see modern Dukes. Make them as good looking as the originals with decent storylines and I think people would watch.

I too liked that they did that, but remember that they changed the show between the original and the resumption, inserting a lot of Latino characters to satisfy diverse casting expectations. It derailed the show with all the Mexican criminal story elements. Current diversity requirements would be much more for a 2022 show. You would almost certainly have to have one or more Dukes in multiracial marriages, for instance. All the inclusion would fundamentally alter the nature of the show into being something that is not Dukes of Hazzard.

Imagine a reboot where Bo and Luke still had all their good ol' boy adventures and crazy car chases, but also challenged the stereotypes of what a modern redneck should be. Let Uncle Jesse teach them that no race is better than another, and that the right to own a gun comes with an equal responsibility, and there are many ways to worship God and many ways for people to love each other. In turn, the Dukes could teach that rural culture isn't inherently inferior to urban culture, that prejudice and ignorance is not confined to the South, and we'd all get along if we'd just put all the bullshit aside and have a meal and a drink together.
How subversive it would be to have a show beloved by the MAGA crowd actually have a conflicting message to the constant stream of poison they hear from right wing media. It might even get through to some people and change some hearts and minds.

Dukes of Hazzard was a big hit mainly because straight boys were jerking off of Daisy Duke and gay boys were jerking off to Bo and Luke. In that pre-internet era, the show was basically whacking material. That's why it did so well in the ratings. Why do you think Bo and Luke were always in skin tight jeans and Daisy was half naked in every damn show?
