I was reading a thread from 2013 and it was great. There was no trollery present. It used to be that trollery only took place during election season. That’s when our previous Muriel had the brilliant idea of separating political threads from gossip/discussion. We had separate Flames & Freaks section for topics that devolved into name calling by the same two trolls arguing endlessly with each other. Those people would write 27 bulleted paragraphs per post to each other. Remember Paul? He was an OCD nut who couldn’t resist trolls.

The Russians are in a rage 5hat they’re losing the propaganda war in Ukraine. And there are lots of Chinese here now. Dayalounge is a good place to gather info on random areas (“My bf and I are retiring to (name of town)! We’ve never been there! Tell us all about it!”) Tha5bgelps build an online legend.

R2, I've been here since the late '90s. Your memory's plainly faulty if you seriously think there was only trollery during election seasons, and as another old-schooler already noted, the segregated F&F section didn't last long (plus redtags disappeared entirely for most of the 2010s). Did you somehow miss the peak years of authenticated posters? I still remember the attacks and near-constant trollery against said DLers, on topics having zilch to do with politics.
It also seems to have escaped you that all the threads in F&F were originally posted on the main forum – meaning their posters were, by definition, trolls well before their threads got dumped into the F&F pool. Also, all of the OCD fangirls whose obsessive posting on DL's first true long-running "collaborative fiction" threads – think Domlijah & Toothy Tile – got out of hand, along with that of the homophobic frauen in the Daytime Dish forum. They, too, were trolls, and they posted shit that also had zilch to do with politics. (And this was 20 years ago, not 10.)

There were trolls (intestinal parasites anyone?) in the nineties.
There were also multiple different topic areas, gossip and politics were only two, but each topic was just one long thread.
