What a fucked up people!
They punished guard dogs that failed to bark at strangers by crucifying them and parading them around in a ceremony called Supplicia Canum.
And they maintained gliraria, perforated clay jars that acted as "farms" for mice. Each gliaria had internal risers for the mouse to run and climb on and little feeding pans into which nuts could be poured through a tiny chute. The idea was to fatten the mice up so that they would be suitable for cooking and eating.
I'll MARY myself all day on this. But GROSSSSSSSSSS

Some day, if humankind survives, historians will write about us slaughtering billions of animals every year in horrible ways just to endlessly feed our already obese bodies.
