Country Queen Miranda Lambert stopped a show at her new Vegas residency, during a more serious song, because a group of girls were more concerned about taking their selfies than listening. “I’m gonna stop right here for a second, I’m sorry,” Lambert said. “These girls are worried about their selfie and not listening to the song.”
“It’s pissing me off a little bit,” she continued. “Sorry, I don’t like it. At all. We’re here to hear some country music tonight. I’m singing some country damn music. Shall we start again?” Lambert then motioned for the women to sit down and stop.
And while some members of the crowd cheered Lambert on for standing up for herself and her art, others felt it was rude to call out the women. In fact, some fans were so upset that they got up and left the show early. “Let’s go — you don’t do that to fans,” one woman can be heard saying to her friends as they left their seats. Other fans flooded the comments section of the TikTok, calling Lambert’s behavior “out of line.”

I don't blame her at all. Sometimes it's downright disrespectful and distracting. I was at one of her shows and the general admission area was a big field in front of the stage. Was watching the show and this group of women in front of me were so fucking obnoxious and loud. Of course they had to do one of those group photos where they're turned away from the stage with the singer as the background. Without even looking, the girl taking the pic takes two big steps back and smacks the back of her head into my chin, then gets bitchy with me.
Without watching the vid I'm guessing these gals had their immaculate cowboy boots and "cowgirl" hats, which they only wear to country shows.

Those here praising Lambert for her "bravery" and bluntness: Consider that she's a globally* famous, multimillionaire. She's been doing this a LONG time. Yes, people taking pics and selfies at a concert are obnoxious and tiresome, but they're also not performers. The average person doesn't get to go to those types of things very often. It's a bit event in their lives and they spend a lot of money on it. They, perhaps ignorantly, want little mementoes of the evening. They PAID to get in there with no written rules against them taking photos, apparently. They're just everyday people and, like it or not, this is how people are these days. Their phones are extensions of their hands.
Miranda Lambert, on the other hand, is a professional, (allegedly) who's seen a lot at her concerts. Why couldn't she have been above admonishing those girls and humiliating them that way? They likely paid premium price to see her up close. They were taking photos because they love her and it was a special occasion to them. Miranda Lambert was on her own stage, but the fact somebody wasn't glazed over and drooling over her tired hick song was just too much for her to handle. What was the overwhelming force that, instead of ignoring it, made her embarrass them and be a complete bitch in front of her fans? There was really no need for it. If you can't handle your fucking fans, you have no business being famous and you don't deserve fans to begin with.

I saw Ray LaMontagne in concert 10 years ago, and he stopped singing to chastise audience members who were talking through his set.
"During a brief — but oh-so-passionate — screed, LaMontagne asked the offending audience members, essentially, why they didn’t go home and listen to an (expletive) record and talk over it instead of (expletive) talking over him in the front row of his show. He then demanded their removal by security as a contingency to his re-entering the performance space."
Then he and his band left the stage. But they came back a short while later to finish the show.
I thought it was great, but the reaction from the community was decidedly mixed, just as it seems to be here with Miranda's actions.

I just got back from a concert. Everyone was taking selfies and video. Including the band and lead singer. It didn’t detract at all from the experience for me. I was chuckling, thinking of this thread and wondering how many of you hate when everyone in the audience is on their feet and dancing. Do you yell at them to sit down? Years ago, a DLer posted a collage of pictures of people, during the 1970s, enjoying New York City in the Summer.
I saw people sitting on steps of big buildings, walking, talking, enjoying a play or concert in Central Park.
No, I've never lived in NYC. And the pix showed only daylight hours. My understanding is crime was an issue then.
But, I was struck by how not one of the people in the pictures were holding any cell-phone devices; how they actually were engaged in the world, and the other humans around them, in that moment, even if some were probably higher than a kite.
I'm old enough to remember, and miss the days, before we all thought our existence, in order to be validated, meant we had to artificially document it by mode of a hand-held computer.
Yeah, I know, another variation of "get offa my lawn!" but that doesn't make my point any less salient.

Sorry "Team Miranda" fraus, but the tide has certainly turned against her on this. Those women were not directly at her feet but in VIP seats quite a ways back. Yes, they may have been disruptive for the people right around them but videos show them to be taking a couple of posed images that wouldn't have taken long. They wanted a photo of her in the middle of them. It was actually a clever photograph.
Lambert erupted at them at the very end of the concert, no need to shame them or to ruin the vibe for all her fans. She could have just as easily carried on, DONE HER JOB and finished up. Maybe tell her people that she didn't want anymore cameras at her shows or something. But she's a notorious, nasty BITCH. She's always had a bad reputation. I'm not R119 but I'd object to people singing too. I want to hear the performer, not some out of tune nobody. Don't do concerts anymore though as I hate crowds of people, lines and waiting.

I don't listen to current country music and I'm not about to start now but I was under the impression that Miranda Lambert is big because she's a good songwriter, not so much because she's a good singer.

Well, r126, I confess to not doing GA anymore.
But you're correct, I don't pay hundred$ per ticket to hear the people around me sing; I'm sure they'd on any other day be cheaper, and I find it laziness on the artist's part. My exception has always been "Saturday Night's Alright."
Covid-19 rather put the kibosh on my concert attendance.
None of the above, nor your bizarre ad hominem attack, negates my r119 post.
