Michigan woman blasts her mom in obituary

A woman in Michigan has ripped her dead mother a new asshole in an obituary published in a local paper. Such was the washing in public of dirty family linen that readers complained and the obit was pulled. Mom was called Linda Lernal Harvey Cullum Smith Stull.

There, I've stated my boundaries!

I guess you had to tell her LATER, r4

by Anonymousreply 6December 23, 2023 12:51 AM

Wait until you see the one I write for my mother when that bitch finally has the grace to die!

by Anonymousreply 7December 23, 2023 12:54 AM

If people were so offended why didn't they either stop reading it or contact the daughter to offer help of some kind. I have found that we have come to, let's ignore it instead of helping and it will go away. So many do so many good things and so many do so many awful things. Why do the awful things always stand out above the good things?

by Anonymousreply 9December 23, 2023 12:58 AM

I loved my mom, and love my father despite a long long lonnnnnggggg list of weaknesses, but I know enough terrible parents to know this is justified.

by Anonymousreply 10December 23, 2023 12:59 AM

My dad I didn't exactly hate when I was 18 he took off and I didn't see him for 12 years and when I finally did it again I ended up taking care of the last few years of his life after his wife died. When he passed away a few years ago I never even bother to write an obituary because I didn't want to be disingenuous but I also think partly it was sort of my revenge for him abandoning me.

by Anonymousreply 11December 23, 2023 12:59 AM

I have no issue with people being honest in obituaries provided they were honest before the person died.

Waiting until someone dies to expose them turns into a he said/she said type of thing, it seems much more believable when the accuser exposes the truth before the accused dies.

After reading it, all jokes aside, good for her. I get it and applaud her.

Ugh. I don’t care how your parents treated you, this reeks of emotional constipation at best.

by Anonymousreply 17December 23, 2023 1:31 AM

And now she's taken her laxative and shat.

I don't think it's the best thing to do and some people will take issue, but if her mom was a piece of shit, so be it. Why would I care?

by Anonymousreply 18December 23, 2023 1:33 AM

The shit about “healing from generational trauma” is such puerile, narcissistic language. Healing from trauma by broadcasting it out into the public sphere? Give me a fucking break. Therapy speak being mainstreamed has fed into everyone’s worst mental indulgences. Only cowards kick a dead body.

Mammas, don't let you babies grow up to be adults....

Want a nice obituary then be worthy of one.

by Anonymousreply 26December 23, 2023 1:55 AM

R7 oh my rescue. You need to resolve that. She is still your mom at the end of day.

by Anonymousreply 27December 23, 2023 1:57 AM

Denise, when you have a tumor, what do you do? Do you sit it down and say, "Hey, tumor, let's get along, ok?" No, you take a knife and cut it out! Well, Denise, your mother is a tumor. My heart bleeds for you, because I have been there, and I know how hard it is to look at your own mother's face and say, "Bye-bye, you toxic harpy! You're not hurting me again!" But that is what you have to do.

And you know what, Denise? I BET YOUR CAKE WAS YUMMY.

[quote] this reeks of emotional constipation at best.

No. Emotionally over the top, perhaps.

But emotional constipation is the kind of mealy-mouthed, pearl clutching, pretend-to-be-sad fuckery so many extend to parents (and other family members) who were awful, terrible or outright abusive during their lifetime.

by Anonymousreply 29December 23, 2023 1:58 AM

r27, my mother allowed my grandfather to rape me when I was a toddler, regularly beat the ever loving shit out of me, starved me, had multiple boyfriends who should never have been allowed around children and is just an all around vile evil cunt.

she is no 'mother' of mine and when I watched my sister's funeral a few months ago she herself said she only had one daughter and now she was all alone.

I am fully resolved and the day is done.

by Anonymousreply 30December 23, 2023 2:05 AM

The comments on the Post were supportive of the daughter. Parents can be abusive. Just because they are your mom or dad doesn’t mean you have to make good with them. If they never admit or apologize, then this is what happens.

by Anonymousreply 31December 23, 2023 2:05 AM

I hated my father; didn't even go to the mother fuckers funeral. Burning in hell I hope.

by Anonymousreply 32December 23, 2023 2:07 AM

I’m fine with someone kicking the dead body of a mother who allowed her child to be abused, then blamed the child for the abuser’s behavior. Telling the world that your mother was a piece of shit so that no one will remember her as a good woman (or assume you feel badly about her death) probably is therapeutic. The mother’s behavior toward the daughter was far more cowardly and reprehensible than the daughter’s decision to go scorched earth in the mother’s obituary.

by Anonymousreply 33December 23, 2023 2:08 AM

It's taken everything I have to not email the church my mother is an upstanding, long term member of. They gave my sister a televised 1.5 hour long funeral because of my mother's standing with them. If I thought being exposed would actually kill her I wouldn't hesitate but unfortunately she'd just dip out and show up somewhere else like the cockroach she is.

by Anonymousreply 34December 23, 2023 2:12 AM

Rescue-chick, I admire your bravery.

by Anonymousreply 35December 23, 2023 2:13 AM

I think it's more rage that sustains me r35 but, thank you for understanding. I definitely 'get' what and why she did what she did (the obituary woman). I bet it was an emotional funeral for her. ie, writing it was her putting it all to rest. I can't wait until my mother dies and I can stop looking for her in every crowd.

by Anonymousreply 36December 23, 2023 2:18 AM

I’m glad you are allowing yourself those feelings, R-C , and beating yourself up for not forgiving her.

by Anonymousreply 37December 23, 2023 2:21 AM

Inappropriate and self serving.

by Anonymousreply 39December 23, 2023 2:23 AM

I don't know if this is true everywhere but a funeral director told me church leaders no longer allow family members to give the eulogy. He said those who feel like this woman go off and start yelling about how awful their loved one treated them and it becomes, well, less of a eulogy and more of a grocery list of grievances and accusations. I suppose obits are still fair game.

"Just Melvin, Just Evil" is a documentary about a man who molested a slew of daughters and stepdaughters. One of Melvin's wives would hand over a girl baby, knowing what Melvin was going to do.

The daughters were drinking and heckling at the funeral and I don't blame them.

Rescue-chick, I am so, so sorry. Holy shit is all I can say. I've read many of your DL posts and had no idea. Few people could have come through all that as well as you. 🙏

by Anonymousreply 42December 23, 2023 2:40 AM

Why would they take the article down? Does this news outlet support sex abuse? Freedom of speech means saying things that are uncomfortable whether we want to hear them or not. This was not libel if it was true. If the daughter was determined she should sue if they didn’t put it back up.

by Anonymousreply 44December 23, 2023 2:56 AM

R40 Shocking how this type of a situation would be covered up by a church, an institution many view as suppressing freedom of thought and sweeping sex abuse under the rug.

by Anonymousreply 45December 23, 2023 2:58 AM

She hated her mother and needed to express it. That's fine, I hope she feels better now.

by Anonymousreply 48December 23, 2023 3:40 AM

She hated her mom because mom hated her.

Why did this thread turn into a therapy session for one of the lesbos on here? This entire obit is emotionally constipated and immature, adults move on with their lives instead of broadcasting their issues for attention and never letting the past die.

by Anonymousreply 50December 24, 2023 4:46 PM

Especially lesbos that claim to be over it, but then proceed to air out decades of baggage.
