Best Gay Campy 90s Movie

Pick your favorite. I selected what seemed to be the gayest, campiest release of each year, that have held up in the zeitgeist the best. The selections are up for debate: Addams Family Values was chosen for its amazing performances, especially Joan Cusack, and meme worthiness over the dreadful Hocus Pocus, which has higher stature currently but is dreck.

Original Thread title was ‘Sophie’s Choice for Fags’

The Parent Trap wasn't campy. It was the usual bloated, overlong vanilla rom-com from the twisted rich mind of Nancy Meyers. She and her talentless nepo baby daughter can both go and fuck themselves.

I voted for Drop Dead Gorgeous. One of only two movies I can quote from beginning to end (the other one being The Sound of Music, of course).

R7 good catch. Sister Act is pretty popular with POC Kweens. So tough call.

R2 that was on there and swapped for FWClub at the last minute.

Sontag would tell us that proper camp doesn't know it's camp. It thinks it's legitimate art.

OP was right not to add movies like "Priscilla" or "The Birdcage." Those movies set out to be on-the-nose, self-referential, and very GAY.

by Anonymousreply 10September 10, 2023 1:18 AM

Most of the movies on OP’s list don’t even have any gay characters.

Most gay characters are written to appeal to a straight audience - hence camp.
