Tommy (Jason David Frank) and Adam (Johnny Yong Bosch) are still hot and not criminals. It was rumored Austin St. John did porn. Unfortunately never found it.

by Anonymousreply 1May 20, 2022 10:52 PM

I met him at a home show way back when…he seemed like an arrogant prick

by Anonymousreply 2May 20, 2022 10:58 PM

Johnny Yong Bosch today. Yellow stays mellow.

Austin was only 18 when the show started. Sadly he lost his looks when he reached adulthood. I used to have the biggest crush on him.

by Anonymousreply 6May 20, 2022 11:04 PM

It's odd, according to IMDB, he's of Native American, German, Irish, Japanese and Spanish descent. You'd think that mix would age beautifully. Also why was Jason David Frank cast as the magical Native American Tommy when he's just Greek? Having long black hair and olive skin, does not make a Native American. Austin actually is and looks Native American. Hollywood is weird.

It wasn't him.

Initially, people thought that Sean Cody's Brock (below) was him when he debuted in late 2005,

Damn, Tommy must've been my first crush as a gayling. FINE!

by Anonymousreply 10May 20, 2022 11:43 PM

Apparently, the Power Rangers set was very hostile. The cast and crew did not predict the show would become a huge phenomenon. The cast members were underpaid which led to the recasting in season two. There was a lot of homophobia towards David Yost. Jason and Austin didn't get along.

by Anonymousreply 11May 20, 2022 11:50 PM

I was so sad when Trini (aka Yellow Ranger) was killed in a freak car accident during her friend's bachelorette party. I remember it was like a week after Aaliya's plane crash and a week before 9/11.

by Anonymousreply 12May 20, 2022 11:50 PM

r11 time for a Netflix documentary!

by Anonymousreply 13May 20, 2022 11:53 PM

R12 it was that crash that rendered Dustin Nguyen’s (now ex) wife a quadriplegic.

by Anonymousreply 14May 21, 2022 12:01 AM

I had the movie on VHS tape as a kid. It really was just an extended episode and most of the budget was spent on that skydiving intro lol. Granted it was for kids and a cash grab. Anyway, Tommy was so hot.

Wow, R9, he does look just like him.

by Anonymousreply 16May 21, 2022 1:50 AM

There had bern rumors about David Yost possibly coming back for one of the new Power Rangers show's and that he has been trying to get reunion special to happen. Steve Cardenas who replaced Austin is pissed at the Daily Mail because they put a picture of him up on their article talking about this.

If any of this is true, this will be second time someone from the Power Rangers franchise has gotten into serious trouble. After the actor who played the Red Wild Force Ranger stabbed a roommate to death with a sword and claiming it was in self-defense and recently was just released from prison.

The actor who played the Black Operation Overdrive Ranger supposedly got banned from certain conventions because he allegedly stole some Power Rangers items that were going to be auctioned off for a children's charity.

by Anonymousreply 17May 21, 2022 3:30 AM

Austin released a statement essentially saying that he apologizes for missing some scheduled events and that he will fight to clear his name. Also Austin says don't ask him about this case at events and to leave his family out of this.

[quote] [R11] time for a Netflix documentary!

Or a feature film franchise! Let's cast it. I propose James Corden as Yellow Ranger. Him in tights would be hilarious. He must do his own stunts!

by Anonymousreply 20June 1, 2022 4:50 AM

Yeah I didn't like the vibe I got off Austin in person. He was hot back in the day though.

Yost had a breakdown over the homophobic bullying he endured. It was bad.

I never got the hype over Tommy as a character. I still don't. He's somehow the heart of the franchise now.

by Anonymousreply 21June 1, 2022 4:53 AM

I used to watch the original just because it came on after my cartoons. Who was Tommy, was he the Green Ranger? I remember Kimberly, the Pink Ranger, was in a few made for TV movies after that. I thought Billy was in some other stuff, too.

Who were those two guy who used to mess with them at the place where they hung out?

by Anonymousreply 22June 1, 2022 5:02 AM

However hot he was back in the day, he sure isn't now.

Funny that there aren’t ever these insane problems with sketchy castmembers over in the original Sentai fandom...

R22 Tommy was the Green and later White Rangers. The two guys who always teased them were called Bulk and Skull.

by Anonymousreply 25June 1, 2022 12:33 PM

R22 Tommy was the Green Mighty Morphin Ranger who became the White Mighty Morphin Ranger followed by being the Red Zeo Ranger then the first Red Turbo Ranger and lastly the Black Dino Thunder Ranger.

The people running Power Rangers had been trying for years to get Austin,Walter Emanuel Jones and Catherine Sutherland to come back for an appearance. Walter eventually came back to do the voice of a monster,Catherine finally came back for that Ninja Steel episode with several other past rangers and Austin for that Beast Morphers episode.

Power Rangers is still running but it's just on life support. The toys must still sell apparently. But I don't see any little boys wanting to be Power Rangers for Halloween or asking to meet them. It's all about Marvel, Roblox or Minecraft now. Pokemon maintained it's relevancy too.

When I was a kid in the late 90s and early 2000s, everyone wanted the Power Rangers for their birthday party. The toys were popular too. But by the mid-2000s, it became pretty irrelevant. I think Fox Kids and Fox Family (which was coowned by Saban) getting bought out by Disney played a role. Disney aired the newer installments with no promotion and at bad timeslots. Didn't push the toys or games that much either. Then Nickelodeon got the rights after Saban re-bought the rights. But Nick doesn't really seem to treat it better. I feel it's only continued out of tradition at this point.

Two of my young cousins (more like nephews tbh), aged 5 & 10, have never heard of PR or Super Sentai, and don’t even recognise it when shown. They think it’s weird, hokey old Lycra & puppetry shit—the same way some of my generation viewed shows from the 1970s or before.

Both boys are super into their Minecraft, Batman lore, and for some reason the Percy Jackson series. They also love history documentaries made for kids.

The only thing they seem to enjoy that I recognise from my own youth is Lego. The appeal of those blocks is apparently able to survive near-apocalypse.

Reckon it limps on for the nostalgic-fan engagement. 30 & 40-something geeks with fixations, and nothing else on which to spend their time & money.

by Anonymousreply 28June 1, 2022 2:02 PM

I'd love to see how many buisnesses took these loans and ran blaming labor shortage.

by Anonymousreply 29June 1, 2022 2:04 PM

R28 makes sense. I believe PR's appeal was it was so different from what American audiences saw. The Super Sentai effects and designs, soap opera arcs and over the top camp martial arts action. Basically live action anime. Saban did a great job Americanizing it actually. Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon had elements of Sentai too. Today it all comes across as cliched. But in the 90s and 2000s, Eastern media was making a heavy impression as "exotic". The anime, manga and JRPG boom happened at the same time.

by Anonymousreply 30June 1, 2022 3:05 PM

R21 JDF has had a very good relationship with Saban and he has been willing to come back whenever they want unlike some of the other former Power Rangers actors.

The actor who played the Red Ranger in Lost Galaxy said he only did the show in order to help pay for his college education. Supposedly one actors or actresses from one of the early 00's Power Rangers show's has an Only Fans page.

by Anonymousreply 31June 7, 2022 1:38 AM

It's disheartening that Trumpers and rethugs got by with so much fraudulent activity, and just carried on. This guy should be punished, but things are so out of balance.

by Anonymousreply 32June 7, 2022 1:52 AM

I played one of the Power Ranger's father in a tv movie.

We were not Power Rangers in the movie. I had to ask what they were, but everyone else seemed to know.

He's a crook but he was sexy piece of ass back in the day.

One of the worst true crime murder was committed by an actor on the Power Rangers. They always show clips of the PR when the case is covered. The crime haunts me more than just about any other.

I'm starting to wonder if part of this financial aid was some kind of flypaper, a sting. Because they passed the loans out with apparently very little oversight, but now they can trace if someone got 25-cents too much.

by Anonymousreply 37July 6, 2022 2:04 AM

Is it just me or do some of the posts on here seem to be for other threads?

by Anonymousreply 38July 6, 2022 2:10 AM

A rumor going around is claiming that JDF and Austin St. John are currently on very bad terms with each other. That both have talked shit about each other over the years like Jason allegedly calling Austin fat and afraid to fight him in a match that was supposed to be for charity.

by Anonymousreply 39July 9, 2022 8:42 AM

Will Austin be going to San Diego Comic Con this year?

The Blue Turbo ranger a few years ago was accused of making a homophobic comment about the Gold Beast Morpher ranger.

by Anonymousreply 41July 23, 2022 2:12 AM

It's a shame the crime, drugs and homophobia. These hot muscular young guys who did martial arts and wore spandex showing their bulges with homoerotic subtext. Made a lot of little proto-gay boys feel funny down there.

by Anonymousreply 42July 23, 2022 2:22 AM

Any update on him?

It's also sad to Jason David Frank though he was also a born-again Christian asshole and abuser of women. He was a childhood crush. So many hot guys turn out to be assholes sigh.

by Anonymousreply 43June 23, 2023 4:46 PM

Hes still cute just not the hottie he once was. Id still let him fuck me.But then Im a whore.
